Solved Astilbe?

I have had this plant for at least 10 years.
I have a feeling that it is an astilbe, but I have never seen one anywhere near as big as this. I thought they remained small.
I cut it right down every autumn, and every year it grows back bigger than previously.
It is looking beautiful at the moment.

 

Its an aruncus Whippet. Big brother to astilbe

 

have that one, it grows tall like that.

Beautiful plant and yes in the right position they grow big

 

Whippet, take advantage of its size and grow low growing plants like corydalis flexuosa around it. Beautiful sky blue flowers from early spring to early summer . Or japanese painted ferns there

But my garden is having to stay 'as is' now.
Old age, and four dogs, have galloped up - and overtaken me, now.

 

So your name is misleading then "whippet"?

Hello Whippet it is one stunning plant and looks beautiful where you have it situated ...I've just brought to Astilbes stunning plants and what a great purchase it was

 

I have a couple of Astilbe . The Aruncus is a real looker , but very large

 

I have a couple of white astilbes too and much prefer their neatness and compactness to that of aruncus. Agree that the latter can get pretty big

 

The only down side to it, is that the flowers don't last long enough. It seems as they are no sooner in bloom, than they turn a mucky brown.

I had astilbes years ago, and really like them. There are some nice colours, too.
