      It's very interesting, Dave. I noticed that where they were taking the pics there was little or no light pollution and that they forgot to mention that. I have a Sodium Street Light in the lane at the end of my garden and it's a problem when viewing the skies in a certain direction. I have a 500mm lens which on my camera is equivalent to an 800mm so I would have to go into the countryside at least a half mile away to get away from the light pollution, which I will do!!

        But they did mention you need a dark sky though....:)

        But I do love a bit of astro-photography and I'm still waiting to get a particular shot, but conditions have not been right this last couple of winters, I looked at the location last week and its waist deep in water at present !

        Ambient light can be used to highlight foreground, as in the last shot above...so its not all bad.

            The second shot was put together using the software mentioned in the film link posted by Dave at the top here, it was deep sky stacker.
