For me Primroses are indeed the first sign of spring - more so than daffodil. One of my pink ones (still the wild primrose) has just popped a couple of flowers, but my yellow ones have yet to flower.

I have found over the years that planting the seedlings in my meadow grass area they flower earlier than in the border. Natural habitat conditions I suppose, protection from cold then having to get their heads up before the grass does!

Nice cowslips and do I see Cyclamen Neopolitana behind? Mine like the same conditions.

As to my cowslips/primroses I am afraid they are all very promiscuous. a frend gave me som cowslips and I planted them next to an orange/red primrose and the following year I got very large orange cowslips. Have to say they are lovely. Year after year they come back same colour and type seeding themselves around quite happily, could I have a new breed?

Wish my primula vialli would do the same!

as to bulbocodium, mine are much later if any have survived after builders, but I have just aquired Narcissus Rupicola which I am just waiting to peep open - I live in hope!

I'll have to get a pic of my Fritillaria Uva Vulpis which has just opened, even if it means laying down on my newly laid turf. I HAD a big primrose bud but something has had it! :( I'll have to wait for the next bud now which has just emerged [IMG]

    Top middle or top right?
Top middle with the pink buds looks a bit like Pulsatilla.
    Top right dunno.

Pete ,it's the same plant but the one on the right has been covered over until I pulled some out to keep it off the Cowslips. I expect the crowding discoloured the leaves and stopped it forming flower stems.
