My Aucuba japonica 'Variegata' is looking very poorly and sad for it self..
an awful lot of the leaves are marked with brown spots .. a few weeks ago there was some new growth that looked very much like buds , but now it looks as if the frost has killed them.. i gave it a feed yesterday ..the spots are about the size of pea or slightly larger.. there is good drainage where it is planted .. wonder if you guys have any thoughts.. i bought it as a specimum plant 18 months ago ..
    thanks .. Micky

Even though this shrub type can handle shade because it is Variegated it needs little more sun due to the lack of solid green on its leaves. You can only answer that. The brown spots may be a bug situation. Try a lessor harsh spray of liquid dish detergent preferably lemon Joy and water, just a good squirt in a spray bottle of water and spray the plant under the leaves etc. Its a start. Maybe someone else has an idea.
Or google the plant and see if someone else in the world had that issue with this plant.

Can you post pics of the leaves? I've had some sort of fungal leaf spot on some of my plants so it may be that.
