Hello, oak, and welcome to GC.

Mrs oak could well be right regarding too much sun as they prefer dappled shade.

I had two in Bucks and they lived in the shade with just some morning sun. I had the varigated and they were always a showpiece.

I have an aucuba its in sun first thing in morning but shade the rest of the day, leaves are yellow and green anyway they are called spotted laurel. They don't usually need feeding cos they are quite happy in poor soil.
