Well due to illness and the wet weather, I have not been out in the garden for a few days , but today the sun was shining and I ventured out. Lots of tidying to do this weekend but I thought it tidy enough to take some pictures. There is a definite whiff of autumn about but I was pleasantly surprised to see the lushing effect all the recent rain has had on the Jungle.

The grass has perked up after a baking this summer and from the over shadowing by jungle foliage

I have also been busy resurrecting a rather sad oak barrel into something worthy of some jungle plantsThe plan is to plant it up by the front door with my other Acacia or even some more bananas

So here are some shots of the Hideout in August

The tree ferns are going strong despite some mental winds which toppled the largest. He is now re-installed and looking as magnificent as ever.

Particular flowers that are fantastic at the moment include...

Eucomis, which has increased in number this year and seems to have more for next year too

I went off fuschias a while ago, but I still have a soft spot for them and keep this one going

The rudbeckias seem to have been in flower for ages

As do the abutilons, in fact I cant remember the last time there wasnt a flower on the abutilon

My Albizia julibrissin has been flowering for something like a month now and it still continues. The plan is to plant this in the ground next year from the pot it is currently in, and maybe I will have even longer flowering period

    And my lone surviving sunflower

And of course some things are fruiting in abundance

    Passion flower fruiting

And my soon to be sown arisameas

Foliage is always a priority in any self respecting jungle and in August most of them have reached their peak for height and spread.

Evergreens such as the trachycarpus never fail to impress.

Hardy Gingers are close to flowering having had impressive foliage since early June.

Bananas, obviously... with the promise of another flowering stem in the next month

Paulownia tomentosaanother one that doubled in size this year, ready for a pruning next spring.

Lots to see but not enough time to list it all

What can I say, BM, looking superbly lush and green ... I'm really envious! Everything does look so fresh after the rain; I'm sure you're more than chuffed!

Trust you're feeling better and I can't see what you need to do out there!

Hi LoL and Marge, just cutting the lawn and general pruning to keep everything in order. Have had sun and cloud today, when I loaded the pictures up some look lovely and sunny and some almost cold.

The 'Secluded area' at the end marge is fringed with Miscanthus sinensis "Zebrinus" or Zebra Grass. Its is really good for screening and grows from this, in April/May....

and then the picture you saw. It would grow quicker and taller but it is restricted for space and light by what I have around it.
