Very unlikely to see a visible display. Quite apart from the mist and cloud up here the effects of the solar wind have not been as dramatic as at first predicted.
I monitor the solar activity as it has a significant effect on radio propagation and can cause some quite interesting effects in the VHF bands. The effect on radio propagation tends to happen with moderate solar flares (and it happens fairly frequently) but the visible effects tend to come with the more massive ejections. Over the past few days there's been very little auroral reflection of radio signals and what there has been has been mainly in the northern parts of north America.
Best display I ever saw was in 1988 or 89 it lasted for hours and the radio effects lasted for a few days. The disruption to the earth's magnetic field knocked out large parts of the electricity grid in north America.

Thanks Ziggy. I've been reading and watching all that.
I don't think I've got much chance. |It's all cloudy and damp and horrible.
But I'm watching anyway and will be sure to report any success.
