    Hi folks
Can anyone suggest reasons why my autumn flowering crocus all fell over :( ? The stems seemed to be really weak. Could it be they were not planted deep enough ?
    Cheers

I've noticed that it is a trait of some species and cultivars of Colchicum (the autumn crocus) to flop. One reason why they are not good as container plants; in that situation the characteristic is more pronounced. I don't think that cultivation has any bearing on this, although I would suggest that the best siting for them is amongst shrubs.
Birds can make a mess of both crocus and colchicums. But I'm sure you would have noticed if that was the case.

I've had this problem too. I bought some very pretty colchicum this year which I am delighted with, they flower really close to the ground and really do look like their name- Waterlily. They wre more expensive than the singles but each bulb has produced at least 3 flowers, so they look excellent in containers. The singles definitely needsome support, or maybe a tighter clump would work.
