The local moorland gorse is thinning a bit now, but still quite sought after by the bees, like this little visitor a few days ago

My mother used to quote a proverb that "Kissing's out of fashion, when the gorse is out of bloom," - i.e. never, since in Sussex at least (where she grew up) you can always find a few flowers year-round.

Bumble bees are such funny insects in motion - look as if they should be too heavy to fly. I always enjoy watching them in the garden here, Salvia "Amistad" is their big favourite at the moment.

Once heard that according to the laws of aerodynamics bumble bees shouldn't be able to fly.
