I inherited a pretty shabby lawn when I moved into our present house last summer. Lots of moss, lots of dandelions and very poor drainage (clay). Over the summer I have undertaken a program of week killing, moss removal and fertilising. The lawn now looks much better but still contains some moss. I intend to kill the moss, scarify, top dress and overseed any bare patches in the next couple of weeks.

For moss removal, should I bother with another application of summer weed and feed (this weekend) or is it now a bit late? Would I be better off sticking to a straight moss killer with an application of autumn fertiliser after scarifying? Indeed, when exactly should I apply the fertiliser - prior to top dressing and over seeding or afterwards?

    Any advice very much appreciated.

As I recall from directions on the canisters, applications are better spaced a week or so apart. Guess what you're planning seems okay so far as I can tell but it's not too late to be doing stuff to the lawn.

You've got more committment than I have, neighbour! [IMG]

As an addendum - moss usually occurs in compacted areas (sometimes shady) so may I suggest that you do the fork/sand thing - to improve drainage and loosen it up. By that I mean using a fork with a very little lever back to create holes every 3-4 inches and then brushing sharp sand into the holes. You can get special implement that do this, but I find the fork just as good.

Time - I know the feeling. Best time to do the fork and sand thing is after work - relaxes you before going on to enjoying the evening :D
