    What does it mean when I am viewing 'new posts' and I see my avatar inside someone else's please. I thought it might be posts that I am watching but that is not the case.

      I think it means that you have previously posted comments in that thread. If you put that little arrow (don't know the proper name for it) on your avatar it will tell you how many comments you've posted in the tread.
