I purchased some Eustoma from T&M and the packet said the average contents were 30 seeds. Now I know the seeds were teeny weeny, but I only counted 12, so I phoned T&M and complained. They sent me a replacement packet of seeds, but this packet contained only 7 seeds! I am not very happy and plan to phone them again for further complaint. I'm not usually one to complain, but this is out of order, don't you agree?

Don't spend money 'phoning, email them for free.

If they don't all germinate, email them again (and don't be fobbed off with nil/substandard germination).

And if they try and offer replacement seeds, point out it will now be too late to sow and a refund is required.

P.S. Always save your seed packets!

    Hello Tiarella
Keep complaining until you get your 30 seeds . They take an exact payment from you not an average one ! To be fair counting some seeds must be the devils own job , but I think that maybe 10 - 15% under may be reasonable , say 25 seeds minimum. But definately not 12 + 7 .

Yep, never trusted T&M since the late 80s.

Average contents 30? What exactly does that mean?
If you had 12 in your packet, someone else must have had 48 seeds, in theirs.:loll:

I still buy from the occasionally, but I dont expect miracles.

    I occasionally buy from T&M and have two strokes of luck from them this year;

First I ordered 4/5 packs of various seeds that should have arrived within 7 days, after 2 weeks nothing, I phoned up and enquired and they said they must have got lost in the post and sent a repeat order out which I recieved the following day!!!!, nearly a month later the original order turned so I got 2 for the price of 1..

Secondly two of those those packets contained 2 foil packets of seeds instead of 1, I counted the seeds and there definitely should have been just the 1!!!!

My recent order with T&M took 2 weeks - they said it should have taken 7 days so they are a bit useless. All the seed I sowed tonight was too small to count except for some sweet peas, there were supposed to be 25 seed in the packet and I counted 30. I used to work for a seed company and we had to set the machines to pack a few more than the average otherwise trading standards would have come down on us, so T&M have got it badly wrong Tiarella, you are within your rights to complain and tell them you will get Trading Standards involved if they don't get it right.

    .

T&M are trouble and always have been!

Ordered some flower and vegetable seeds from them in February deliverly in 5 days? I think, after a month I e-mailed them they said they had been sent.

I eventually got three deliverlies of seeds and a further one with a credit note in it.

According to the invoice the last package received had been sent first, looks like Royal mail had had it!

T&M seeds do not germinate very well for me and some of the people in the gardening club say the same!

I had this problem once with a packet of Mr Fothergill's tomato seeds. At least they were not too much trouble to count. I complained and got a replacement packet.

I think T&M are right out of order and it is time the seed industry was regulated a bit more as germination rates of many seeds are poorer than they should be, I think. Trouble is, most people would not think to complain, they would blame themselves first.

I also have an issue with some of the descriptions of the plants which can be grown from the seeds - they can be wrong, inaccurate or downright misleading. Again, you don't realise this till near the end of the season so there is unlikely to be a comeback for the seed company.

Must admit that I am not very happy with a certain supplier at the moment, but that is the subject of another thread.

Not yet had cause to complain about T&M, I guess it is early days for me. I would have thought that a company as big as T&M would be able to get it right by now. I think you are right to complain. If you don't get a satisfactory resolution then have a word with the Trading Standards.

    Good luck.

    Chopper.

I've had a number of disappointments with T&M over the years. More so that other big-name seed brands.

Bilbo exactly the same thing happened to me with T+M my seeds didn't arrive so they sent me more that like yours arrived next day ,then the originals arrived two weeks later, had lots of seeds from them over the years that have all done well, not so pleased with the young plants though so tiny they took till autumn to get going, I do tend to but from Plantworld nowadays though more unusual seeds and always lots of them.

I also have had a packet with two foil containers of seed in, but I've also had a packet with none in.

I've also opened a foil pack to find no seeds whatever in it.

If something can happen it will happen and it will happen to me.

I have mentioned this point in a thread before ,and they were about several seed companies not just T&M,

Obviously when you open a packet that says 250 seeds you are not worried but when you pay more for less seeds, the more "exotic" species you do notice .

I always read how many seeds are supposed to be in pack as this governs my choice of seed tray/module,and have been disappointed several times
