She is feral but a true poppet and we have made her three different 'beds' around and under the caravan. Any thoughts?

I can't seem to edit my own posts but what I would like to say is that the darling poppet is very young, has one eye (I have been treating the bad one for four months) and breathing difficulties and have been giving she and her brother (a darling ginger and white) Panacur as they both have lungworm. She loves me tickling her 'babies' and purrs/sings so loudly but cannot speak.

They are feral cats at the river but I just love them and will do all I can for them. :cat-kittyandsmiley:

She couldn't wish for finer care and safety for her kittens than in your keeping Victoria. I'm sure it will all go well . Are you able to have her spayed after?

Thank you Jenny and I do hope so ... I think the animal charity I am a member of MAY pay for it. :love30:

          She is beautiful!
My cats have had kittens over the years and, really, all you can do is make sure they have a very, very good diet and plenty of love.
I hope she and the little ones will be ok. Pics when they arrive please?

Well, the babies arrived overnight, three we thought! We had put a CCTV camera on the banana box we had put where we thought she would have them ... and surprisingly she did! :yahoo:

We thought there were three and Beija left the babies to come out and eat with us! Then she went back into the Banana Hut and she was washing one of them ... constantly ... and I said I think that one is dead as it looks like it is flopping around ... not only was it dead, we watched her eat it barring it's head! :hate-shocked: Then she turned around and washed the others ... still three ... ???? ... there were four and one was dead. I have photos I won't put up but tomorrow because it may disturb some folk but I will put others up.

After all of this she came out of the box and came into the caravan and lay on her back for us to tickle her again.

I have taken the photos off the TV video and they are c*r*a*p ... but here is one of Mum and Babes ...

              Mum & Babes.jpg

It was like watching a National Geographic programme ... so, so fascinating ...

I didn't know cats did that, eat there own babies if they die.
Sounds a really wild thing to do, and awful to us, but it just shows how they survive by not wasting anything.

I am not disturbed or distressed by what Mum did. It was a wonderful natural way of doing the best for herself and the other kittens. How fascinating it most have been Victoria - to observe all of the birth process. I would appreciate if you could PM me some of your video footage please,
                Jenny

Pete, having read up about things these past few weeks, this is not normal but not unusual for feral cats to do this. Strange this was she came out before this incident and ate what I put down (tinned and crunchy food) and then again after ... all within three hours!

Jenny, I will send you some photos when I get them organised ... give me a few days. We were gobsmacked, stunned and amazed at the same time. As t'other half said, it was just like watching a National Geographic programme.

I think, without the likes of David Attenborough, we would be pushed further and further away from what happens in the wild Victoria. I know that Darwin was often annoyed at the way his fellow Victorians perceieved " nature" as a fluffy, happy cuddley sort of world. Far, far from the truth,
                Jenny
look forward to your pictures IDC, thank you

Wonderful news Vicky although tinged with sadness, nature might seem cruel to us, but she has her reasons for it.. I know you will do the best you can for her & so does she I think... Good luck with the new family... :cat-kittyandsmiley::cat-kittyandsmiley:

Well, what a wonderful day it was today with the babies (gatinhos in Portuguese, little cats).

Almost as soon as we arrived today Beija was alert and knowing we were there. She was with us in minutes to eat. Later in the day, t'other half went to water the garden and it disturbed her to a point as I was sitting on the patio she suddenly ran in front of me with one of the babies in her mouth and went into the caravan where she deposited it on the sofa next to her brother who paid no attention at all. I rushed and grabbed the baby and gave it to t'other half to put back in the bed behind the cabin and stop watering as I thought that had frightened her and she was removing the babies to a safe haven ... ie, inside our van! Just look at this little poppet ... just two days old ...

                    Cruz1.jpg

Beija trusts us implicitly (is that a word?) and when t'other half put babe back in box with t'other two she jumped in and curled up with them, bless. xx

Jenny, I am pleased it has cheered you up!

T'other half is doing a You Tube video of them so I will post it here. Sadly, he did not have the CCTV live when we where not there so we did not see the birth but did see what I mentioned above and we apparently only see what we see when we are there ... does that make sense?
