Yesterday at work a baby Robin flew in :wub2:, I was of course called to help :hapydancsmil:after removing the woman who was freaking out because of the bird :doh:I carefully picked him up, he was such a dear little thing, a bit frightened but not hurt. I took him outside to let him go, he had other plans.... image.jpg

He sat on my finger for almost 10 minutes :wub2:., then I could hear his mother calling him :hapydancsmil:, off he flew straight into the tree with his mother :dbgrtmb:. I'm still grinning from ear to ear, I've always wanted to hold a Robin :dbgrtmb:

:wub2: Oh how precious Beckie :wub2:

You were both lucky to have found one another for that 10 minutes of ultimate trust.

Great photo! Maybe for the July photo comp? (Caption: Eye Trust You)

I think Robins are very intelligent little birds.... every time I work in the garden and dig it over I have a couple which sit in the shrubs watching me, I always thought they were territorial? Any way one of them is more daring than the others and when ever I put my fork or spade into the ground and then start to pull weeds etc. out on my knees it comes and sits on the handle watching for what grubs I turn up and its quiet happy to bob up and down for a little feed. so cute :)

They think you are a pig :) (not quite as intelligent as you first thought then :heehee: )

Seriously! I recall seeing it mentioned on a programme a couple of years ago. The reason they follow us (and it is when we are digging, mostly) is because they learned, many hundreds of years ago, that pigs dig up truffles which Robins also think are a tasty treat and would grab any crumbs the pigs missed.

I had never seen a baby robin until we moved to Eire, I was flumoxed by these little birds, Robin shaped, dun coloured with green flecks, they followed me round our smallholding, I would throw them some dog biscuits, as the time went on they developed the red breast, mystery solved. I was delighted.
