Is it too early to plant out my Bacopa today into my hanging baskets ?, I bought them from the garden centre today but they had them indoors :)

Hi @Flumpy, do you mean bacopa? If so i have some grown from seed in the greenhouse but my wife will not do her baskets until the end of May.

7C1266F7-4885-4A96-9036-5DBCEFCCFFE6.jpeg Yes, sorry I spelt it wrong, I won’t plant them yet then, I’ll put them in my greenhouse as I think my house is a bit too warm. Thanks for getting back to me :dbgrtmb:

I have some becopas in a hanging basket fro last year, it looks very dead, but saw on Gardeners’ World with a segment done by Nick Bailey that Bacopa is sold as a annual but in fact it is herbaceous and can come back, as anyone had such success?

The blue flowered one over-winters for me in an unheated greenhouse and in sheltered spots in the garden. The white one is more tender, I can save it in the frost free greenhouse.

To cold for a unheated greenhouse @Flumpy yet , you need really need overnight temperatures to be warmer they look very softy as well like they have just come out of a heated / light controlled environment .

Windowsill job for a while and take some cutting, May probably the earliest you'll likely to do summer baskets

Just out of interest, when I look in the seed racks in supermarkets or garden centres I never see Bacopa seeds for sale, are these not a thing?

But saying that I got 6 cracking Bacopa from Lidl for £4 last year.

They are not normally seen on racks but can be bought online from kings - nicky seeds and various others. Also I am sure they are a different species of bacopa from the ones bought from Garden centre's ( cutting raised plants )

JParkers is the go-to for me for any Bacopa needs. Even their mini plugs are reliable and easy to pot on from their clever plug trays (which are awfully cute and strong enough to be re-used for seed sowing) https://www.jparkers.co.uk/annuals/bacopa?pgNo=1&limits=48&sort=RELEVANCE

Accidentally resurrected old threads can be wonderfully confusing and entertaining. I think Flumpy is ok to plant her Bacopas after six years of hardening off :heehee:

I have some white Bacopa that overwinters in my garden and even carries on flowering a bit all winter. Originally bought a small pot of it for about a pound from Morrisons, I have had it for years. I have taken cuttings from it easily, but in some places it has grown too strongly and overwhelmed other plants. It seems to like my garden and could probably over-run my whole garden. I learned to trim it back so it only grows where it isn't overwhelming other plants, and it seems happy with that, and it trails and climbs so isn't invading scarce horizontal space. I would love to find other colours of it. This time of winter I am longing for there being plants like this in shops and garden centres. All they seem to have at the moment are house plants.

I bought 2 lots last year, bought 6 plants from Lidls for £4.50. I also bought 1 in an already made up hanging basket from Home Bargains. So the hanging baskets is close to the house and I am hoping it will come back, as Nick Bailey on Gardeners World says they are hardy and are sold as an annual, when they’re not.

                          upload_2025-3-2_17-48-32.jpeg

This is the one in the hanging baskets, looking very dead. So let’s see what happens, I need to cut away the dead growth this week.
