    Hi

I have a couple of bamboo plants in pots on my patio, unfortunately I don't know the species, Can anyone recommend a good feed? soluble or granules would be ideal.

I use chicken pellets on my potted bamboos.
    And sometimes Chempak 3.

A mulch of manure is also good, but it may fill the top of the pot if used over a few years.

They benefit from something with Silica I think?

Watch out for the watering. They take ages to wilt, if dry, and by then it can be very late to fix the problem. I believe his is also true if the pots freeze in the winter, and the roots cannot take up water.

When bamboo get water/heat stressed, the leaves tend to curl. It happens quite quickly, but they recover quite quickly too.

They tend not to grow too much in winter, so as long as they are one of the hardy species, they should be ok.

Bamboo are tough, so although they may not look great in a pot if they are unhappy, they are quite difficult to kill

I had a Chinobambusa in a pot in the corner of my garden that I had completely forgotten about. Was in the same pot for a number of years without any additional watering, feeding etc. When I repotted it, there was one manky looking cane 30cm tall at most, but there was a bit of rhizome under ground. 2 years later, and with some attention, it is growing into a decent looking plant.

Makes sense to me. Lawn feed is quite high in nitrogen, which is the nutrient needed for foliage and stems, which is pretty much all bamboo is.
