You'll have to put down a rhizome barrier alongside the fence.

It can be tough plastic sheeting, slates, concrete blocks whatever. There's no real alternative to a rhizome barrier (unless you tip Roundup over the fence!)

they are truly nice neighbours and we have had a chat over the fence about it

she says she will dig it up and put it into a container

i think i will dig up as much as i can then may have to resort to roundup - thanks kindredspirit

it grew through and under my compost bin so i have emptied all that out and bagged it ready to take to the lottie

    thanks for the info

When my so-called 'clump forming' bamboo had reached 5' tall and covered an area 10' x 8' the wretched thing had to go - that was some time ago! My husband dug and dug and dug and .... well you get the idea. His deepest hole was just over 3' 6" and still there were roots. 4 years on and the blasted stuff still peeps up from time to time, he still digs holes and I have a feeling will be doing so for some years to come. It's had so much roundup etc., on it that I think it's developed an immunity.
