Ive just bought a fab hanging bamboo, i think its phyllostachys flexuosa (zigzag bamboo), but thats only because the leaves look similar. Its a metre or so long, will i be able to leave it out all winter? and is it appealing to those darned squirrels? Dont want to give them ANOTHER gift!!!

Cheers BM, i think thats the one...mine looks a bit more delicate. In a hanging pot it looks like Tina Turners hair circa '85!

    oo-er!

I enjoyed those sites, BM, had a good look around. Hadn't realised how low a temp they can take. Although I suppose they get pretty extreme conditions in central China.....

Hi dendy, what a fantastic bamboo ! If you don't mind I shall mention it to HoneyBee, it would look fantastic trailing her new wall. :D  Bamboo are so beautiful there really is one for everyone. The Chusquea couleou is another one I would love to try if I get the chance. [IMG]

That's really lovely, dendro, but how strange you can only seem to get it from charity shops ... I've gone on line to find out about it but so far nothing!

I bought 6 small plug plants of this from T&M earlier this year. It's not listed at the moment but It's been much admired in the hanging baskets, and my daughter put her plant trailing over a brick spiral in her front garden and it's doing well for her too. It doesn't seem to be setting seed here.
For plant details, look under Lophospermum Erubescens, used to be called asarina. You can buy seed from various places!
