I recently received a huge bouquet of flowers as a gift. There are 2 huge pieces of bamboo in it which both have shoots on which are growing. Is there any way that I can cut these off so I can keep them?

I've not tried it myself so dont really know, but I dont think its possible to grow bamboo from cuttings, so it may well not work. But you've got nothing to lose, as they will only die if you dont try. [IMG]

Did they have corkscrew tops? If so they will definately grow roots. Otherwise, they probably will.

Leave them in water and you will see the roots appear, when the roots look established plant in a pot.

If they are too high for your needs cut them into segments half an inch below a node and with as may nodes as you want then stick them in water or straight into pots with a gritty compost.

It is always nice to have a plant given to one and always nice to give one to someone.

2 years ago my daughter had a bouquet with bamboo shoots in it. As they had little shoots at the top, we thought we'd try to grow them. I put them in water and all 5 developed roots in the water. They aren't curly, I didn't realise the curly one was adifferent plant, I've been wondering how to get mine to curl! I've given some bits away- when they get too tall I cut the top bit off and start again.... theyre still in water, I put a few drops of plant food in now and again. Would they survive outside [in a pot of course!]?
In the same bouquet were several sprigs of spiral willow, which I rooted in water and now have a handsome little tree about 3ft tall, which I did put in a pot. I gave the others away, I don't know if they survived.
