no its a BLACK MAN! oh go on watsit on the end of my tongue negera thing. I like your gold one, is that Aurea.

Have tried very hard to get non invasive clump ones, this is part of a new bamboo hedge. Verity (horse - no don't talk about the horse) well she turnes into a panda everytime she gets a taste of bamboo and tries to teach me early pruning techniques. Everything survived so far.

I will post my Phyllostachys nigra soon.

    They are Phyllostachys aureosulcata ââ?¬Ë?Spectabilisââ?¬â?¢
and Phyllostachys aureosulcata ââ?¬Ë?Aureocaulisââ?¬â?¢. I also have Phyllostachys vivax 'Aureocaulis' which is as beautiful as it is tall!

If you are into bamboo this is a great site for reference.

    Oh Bananaman,
Why did you have to put that link? Fantastic bamboos, it's a good job Ive already divorced Mr.Miller because the amount Ive just spent in my head on that site would have definately hastened his exit!! :D Now if I could just get my head around those botanical names

Its certainly doesn't sell for a common price Waco.

containerman will post a picture of the height of my ââ?¬Ë?Spectabilisââ?¬â?¢, about 15 feet so far. They do really well. over 10 big fat shoots already.

windy miller bamboo is a bamboo I have to refresh my memory to get my tongue round aureosulcata ââ?¬Ë?Aureocaulisââ?¬â?¢. I can give you lots more links to good archectural plant sites.

Thanks bananaman, how do they cope in really strong winds? Are they suitable for putting back of border with the wind coming from the back of them? Im looking for something tallish, 8 - 10ft, hopefully to windbreak a bit as well as look fantastic. How about we swap gardens for a while? Then I can potter and marvel at yours while you build me a fantastic tropical paradise!!
    ;)
    Well, its worth a try!! :D :D

    Hi windy,

I haven't found the winds a problem with bamboo, they are very flexible. As for planting I have taken some dull day photos! (big surprise I know) of how I have used them in the garden. As for planting in borders because I am 100% jungle I am not too concern about them spreading. BUT I have where possible blocked any possible runs where I would not want them. They are pretty easy to look after and like food a bit of peat and lots of nice compost. They can be invasive and you should always keep this at the back of your mind, but if you grow them responsibly and keep an eye on their progress they are a delightful addition. There are many trains of thought about how to get clumps to stay as clumps. I heard Miss Dimock say once that if the plant has all the food and water it needs to grow it will not wander?
