I can't see why not. Just keep it away for the CH and place by a window make sure you give it a turn now and then.

End of May will be fine just keep a eye on the weather to make sure that you don't have a snap frost.

May be an idea to climatise the plant frist

Basically, get it used, very gradually, to tougher conditions than it gets in the house, by putting it in cooler places for longer and longer spells, while protecting from extremes.

If you were hardening off young plants in spring, you'd put them out in a sheltered spot in the garden during warmer days, and bring them into the greenhouse overnight, and keep doing that until the danger of frost has gone, by which time they'll be used to the great outdoors! With your Musa basjoo, you can do similar things, but I'd start with using cooler places in the house first, before going outdoors with it.

    Hope that helps :D

Why did I Kown you was going to say that hehe.

Ok here goes, Take the plant out side for a half a day each day for about aweek so the plant can get used to the out side.

Week 2 place the plant out side all day for a week before planting.

This will apply to 98% of plants, shrubs that have been in a green house or house for long period of time.

    Hope this helps.

All great advice, but, if it were me... second week in May and weather permitting, take it out plant, stand back, admire. :D You are in nice warm Herts so no location issues. Leave the pups on till late summer and remove if necesary in september. They do slow down the mother stem but if removed too early, take far longer to grow. I keep my musa and ensete by the back door. They don't mind the draft, infact the air movement is good as they are a moist bunch. One thing to be aware of is that they perspire at night and any leaves hanging over wood will drip and potentially damage. My aunt (bedfordshire) left her 6 foot stem out all year, only lost a couple of feet to frost and is already showing signs of growth. These are far hardier than you would expect. My 8footers are still flowering in their protection.

Other information about bananas are available in most of these threads :D

Brilliant BM!!!! But they're not in Herts - that's Jimbo! They're in windy Lincs - but I guess you'll still say they're tougher than we think! :D

    And I'm sure you're right!
