Had a few cold mornings this week and since this is my first winter with a Gunnera and Bannana plant was wondering the best way to protect them over winter  and should i do it now.
The gunnera i have read to bend the leaves over the crown?
And the Bannana plant to cover with fleece, should i cut the leaves off or just wrap them up in the fleece.

Leave the leaves to die back and shrink to the stem. Wrap the trunk with fleece, unless you are prepared to risk having to re-grown from the base.

Personally I have left my Musa Basjoo unwrapped at present this year as it is still pushing out a new leaf. Will just put mine in the shed in the next couple of days as i'm in Tenerife next week, which i'll no doubt turn into a seed collecting expedition.

I've gone down to 0.8 minimum this year. The gunnera I'd do as you have.

Thanks for advice, my Musa is also still growing leaves. I want it to carry on growing from where it left off, so will fleece later on .
    Thanks again

I've always cut off the leaves and then wrap with fleece a couple of times round then put a bin bag over the top and secure, put some holes in the bag so they can breath, my stalks are 6ft tall with out the leaves. Uncover next April when the weather gets warmer, and off they'l grow again!
