Bannana shoot

    Can i remove this and pot it up over winter in the greenhouse, if so is it just a shoot and its as simple as cutting it out. Thanks

    Keving, I would wait till next year now.
    Normally I wait until they have roots of their own before I take the offset off the parent plant.
    The offset could easily be two or three feet high by then. I doubt that little one has any roots yet.
    Maybe someone out there has managed it, but I've never managed to get a rootless cutting to take.

    I know kev, that is a problem.
    I think I would leave it where it is and mulch it quite heavily about November time, if the winter is normal for these days, I think it will get through. Might lose its leaves though, but it will soon recover next spring.

    Pete, thanks, i want the parent plant to grow from where it left off this year, i thought i should take the leaves off and fleace and also the shoot, is this correct?

    Well I dont cover mine at all these days, (basjoo), and they seem to grow from the stems each year with little dieback.
    We could get a bad winter, who knows, and its alway possible that they could be cut back to ground level.
    I still think the best approach to the little one is mulch, and a covering of fleece wont hurt either.

    No protection for the last two winters.

    Pete, nice display, my plant is new this year, it was probably just under 1 ft tall, now its about 3ft, so hopefully should be ok this winter.
