I have had great difficulty in sourcing bare root Wallflower plants of good quality,Garden centres seem to want to sell a few in pots only.
They do exist but are hard to find.
Of course when you have space it is easy to grow good quality plants from seed.
I did get some but they will need tender loving care.

They were always sold like this years ago but I think its not the modern way and just wonder how many new gardeners would buy them this way if offered.
I can remember buying all kinds of "cabbage" plants like this years ago as well, with just some wet newspaper around the roots.

I haven't seen them sold like that for years. I sowed some seeds in September but they were mostly eaten by slugs. The ones that were not got tipped on the floor when I knocked the seed tray over by accident. I think I salvaged three :frown:

We had an old seed and corn merchant in the town when I was young and at the right time of the year this kind of stuff would be outside on the pavement in buckets of water, mostly wrapped in bundles of 50 with a rubber band around them, you just grabbed a bunch and took them inside to pay for them.
            Life has got so complicated.

A lot of greengrocers have bunches of bare root wall flowers around these parts. I prefer my own colour schemes

I have just visited my local garden centre/nursery and noticed they sell wallflowers in pots of 5 or bare root in 10s for around £4.50.

I remember years ago they were sold by the 'score'(20).
