Looking at the 'what to do this week' on the Gardener's World site (actually for next week!) - it says "plant bare-rooted roses in well prepared ground".

I have a round bed I want to make into a rose-bed.. is now really the time to buy my rose plants?

And what is 'well prepared ground' (the bed is well dug and beautifully loamy).

I am a complete novice with roses - so any advice is gratefully recieved [IMG]

Hi Jesaya Yes Dec-March Best Time.Use Spade Depth
to dig the Hole ,I always use a (Granular fertiliser)Chicken Pellets
about half a Handfull into the Bottom of the Hole then Lightly Flatten the soil,Place the Rose in the hole ,If you use a short cane and place It across the top of the Hole this will show you the soil level,I always set The base of the Stems below this Level.Add about a spadefull
of compost to the soil you took out of the hole
mix it and refill the hole using your heel to firm it down,Then you can add a mulch round the base to retain the water. Please make sure that the Rose Is firmly planted and the roots ar,nt moving about,This is really important,Hope this has been of some Help. [IMG]
