          Yes, it was on east side of Big Island near Hilo. The east side is tropical and west side of the island gets almost no rain and has a volcanic landscape. :dbgrtmb:

          Thanks all :D I'll certainly update the progress. I planted them yesterday. Hopefully within a month(I wish) some will pop up :D

            Oh lordy - I've only just joined the forum and I'm going to get a rep as a doom monger..........

            I have tried several times to germinate Tacca chantrieri and failed. I've scarified, stratified and all other suggestions from other forums. The upshot is that the seed must be fresh.

            So I wish you good luck (I sincerely do).

            On the plus side they are easy to grow and bloom once germinated! I know because I cheated and bought a plant - reduced to fifteen quid as the blooms were over, but two months later two flowers stems emerged!

            I don't hold any hope for germinating or keeping them here ... let alone the UK .. so boa sorte from me ... :love30:

            They grow well enough indoors. But, and it is a big but, they need space. Mine spans one and a half metres!
