bath water?

can i use bath water to top up my water butt?

 

Hello mattd and welcome to GC.

There is a thing called 'grey water' I believe it's called both in the UK and here. It's where you store such as bath water and water from the washing machine etc in a tank and then use it on you garden.

Although we would like to have such a tank we haven't the space (well, we think there may be one) and this water is actually very good for controlling horrors such as green/whitefly etc because it's soapy water.

I'm sure someone with more information on this will come along and answer you more fully.

matt- - i think they recommend using a seperate water butt for grey water rather than mixing it with the rainwater.

Very interesting. Though we're not often short of water in these parts, I do re-use our bath water in the summer on the garden if it gets really dry. I trudge up and down the stairs with watering cans and trugs full of the stuff. Not the easiest method, but keeps you fit!
