After doing more laps than Roger Bannister, around the garden in a storm, my Beschornaria's trying to flower!!!! [IMG] [IMG] The rest of it looks like it's been hit by a truck but the flower is a phallic thing of beauty!!!! :D :D

Nice one windy, keep us posted on its progress.
I've had one a couple of years or so but no signs of flowers.

    I'll give it a go. :D
I would think you could get away with planting it out in your neck of the woods.
Frost has been my problem, not this winter just gone, but the one before, hope to get some decent growth on mine this summer as there was little damage this year.
Has yours got any side shoots coming to carry the plant on after flowering?

Windy I'm not sure if they keep going after flowering, I think they do, in much the same way as yuccas, by side shoots.
Just thought it might have formed one or two before deciding to flower.

No Pete, there's no signs of any shoots, just a rosette of battered leaves and this monster flower bud [IMG] [IMG] At least now, I know it might die, so I can brace myself!!!! Do you know if it will produce any seed?????

I dont know about the seed, not sure on the pollenator, but I think it will shoot at some stage.
Does the flower stalk seem to have replaced the growing point, or is it like a side shoot, with new leaves coming?

It's replaced the growing point, surrounded by tightly packed upright new leaves. I was really pleased because it was growing and then this 'thing' just erupted [IMG]
God I love this gardening buzz!!!! :D

So that rosette of leaves will die after flowering, hopefully the root will live on and produce "suckers", (unfortunate word that). :D

That is fantastic Windy, of course you must take the credit, after all whatever you did you didn't kill it, which is what happens to me without even trying :D
