    Afternoon all,

Ive had these two little bay trees in pots for about six months now and they dont seem to want to grow. South facing garden, sheltered from wind (mostly) and watered twice a week

Can anybody suggest what could be wrong?

    Regards
    James

A feed with a balanced fertiliser, such as vitax Q4 now and repeat each year in April. Traditionally, bay trees were planted besides the 'privvy', for mutual benefit !

I have 2 bays in pots by my front door and they've not grown over the last 6 months either - but I wouldn't expect them to during autumn and winter.
They still show no signs of growth atm, but would expect to see some movement in the next few weeks.

The stones you have on top of the compost - if they're any type of limestone (e.g. cotswold chippings) that will make the compost very alkaline. So if they are some sort of limestone, best to remove them.

I feed about once a month with seaweed extract when they're growing and prune whenever they look like they need it.

I think I'd rather have a rhubarb, a mullein certainly anything with larger, softer leaves than a bay.

Young bays are slow growing so maybe yours are just biding their time and will as @Pete8 says will start showing new growth now with the warmer weather.

Nothing much actually grows in the Winter, in the UK, especially plants from further south.
