I had a Bay tree lolli pop form in pot for a few years I decided to plant it in the ground and grow as a bush spring this year its started to put on new growth past 2 months but now the leaves I pick dont have much of a scent anymore last year the smell was strong , have I put it in soil that's to good our do does it need a while to get back to form or is there another reason?, the tree is only a few foot tall and in soil that's previously been used to grow veg , is sheltered from North and west but gets full light. Thanks in advance

In good soil it will grow more quickly, you will need to prune it to keep it under control.
As for smell, I find the younger leaves have a lot less flavour, I only pick the mature leaves; so pick the older harder leaves, I always use more than the recipe recommends.

I think bay tree leaves do vary in strength.

You can chop up the soft, young, leaves and use them like a herb. They are very mild

Agree, the young leaves are very mild so if using I just use a few extra
