    Hi,

Next spring I am having my rockery dug up and want to use the space for planting bee-friendly plants. I have lots of bee-friendly plants already in containers and one option is to transplant some of them into the new space. I am also thinking about just sprinkling a selection of wildflower seeds and having a mini wildflower meadow.
Which would be better for the bees - wildflowers or more perennials?!

    Thanks,

    Phil.

Cover your bases and do both!
I've been choosing bee friendly varieties for a few years now and they soon build up to create a really 'buzzing' border. It's a bit like living in an apiary at times :)

I think Loofah is right:snork:, a mixture of hardy perennials and wild flowers are a good option. The wild flowers might not be as prolific as you would want them to be and also being annuals will come and go....and not necessarily as you want them to!! I prefer to use hardy perennials that attract the Bees in the borders and let self sown wild flowers like Sweet Rocket, Red Campion, etc grow among them. I use Teasels as architectural plants but also because the Bees just love them along with Geums etc.:snork:
