    Imidacloprid is a neonicotinoids.

It is used in a vast number of pesticides we use on a daily basis both in the garden and on pets for flea control. The debate on its impact on benefical insects (bees and worms), birds, and on humans has been going on for a number of years

    http://www.pan-uk.org/pestnews/Actives/imidaclo.htm

and a number of european countries have already banned the product.

Here's a google list of some of the products.

    http://www.google.co.uk/products?hl...countryUK|countryGB&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wf

It would help if we read the product lable and followed the instructions - which should be to use when bees are not active - early in the day and in the evening

The use of Imidacloprid as an animal insecticide is not the issue besides for veterinary medication Fiprinol used in front line, selamectin used in stronghold or pemethrin used in cattle drenches dominate the issue is the use as a horticultural and agricultural insecticide. In commercial pest control to my knowledge it is hardly used if at all.

Personally I do not use imidacloprid, there are better equally effective and more environmentally friendly insecticides about. I generally use either Soft soap (Savona) or a new trade insecticide called majestic.

For gardeners who use it the biggest casualty would be the loss of provado ultimate but as I say there are alternatives.
