Looking for some help with our established beech hedge. North Yorks residential, no fields nearby.

I am attaching some pictures. It has been fine for years but this year is doing this

Could sks diagnose and possibly suggest a remedy?

    Many thanks.

The same thing is happening down here in Surrey too. I've never noticed before and think it must be due to the long hot dry period we had.

Parts of my beech hedge are producing fresh new leaves as though it's the spring. The old brown leaves have dropped, again like they do in the spring in a normal year.

There is nothing you can do, just hope they recover next year. If we get severe frosts we might lose the new growth.

Beech is very tough in my experience and has grown back from very severe pruning, when mine got out of hand. It takes a couple of years sometimes.

Nearly everyone in my village has beech hedges and they are doing the same. Look around your local area to see if it's not just you @Sarah Eley

Thank you @JWK for your speedy response. Its conforting to know it may come back OK and it isn't just us. We have spotted others doing the same here. Facing the loss of two prunes trees in the new year so was dreading the prospect of a bald garden, not that baldness is itself a bad thing, she added quickly.
