Is now a good time to trim back a beech hedge?...just lightly?
It's a well established one, about five and a half foot high.

Autumn is one of the recommended times, and since the trees seem to think it IS Autumn - why not??

If you do, you might have to do it again, but it's a risk you might be prepared to take..... :D

Best time to trim a Beech hedge is when you can be bothered. Otherwise, go consult a book.

Apart from mid spring I can't think of a bad time myself. [IMG]

Jazid......what a strange reply...'go consult a book' Surely with all the questions asked on this web-site, the answers could be found in books...I thought the whole idea was to ask friends for their knowledge and advice, as well as being easier and quicker on here too!

Don't take Jazid wrongly, Redfifi - he only meant there isn't a wrong time, in his opinion - but books will tell you otherwise... If you reckon your hedge is a bit untidy, it certainly won't hurt to trim it, but as I said, you might find you need to do it again - but that's not a problem, unless you absolutely hate cutting hedges!
