beech with golden bark... + bugs!

Two questions -
About 3 years ago we planted a beech tree with an unusual golden trunk - can anyone identify it as it came without a label please?

Also, and just out of curiosity, it has now got tiny black eggs under some leaves which have produced voracious 1cm slender black caterpillars - any ideas on this?
