I've noticed some little piles of sawdust being created around the garden in different pieces of wood and logs. The holes are about half a centimeter so I'm wondering if I've started to get some sort of beetle burrowing away?

    Anyone else had this?

I know miner bees can burrow into the cement and bricks, possibly one fancy's the wood instead!

    Cheers, Tony.

Yes, I've noticed quite a few this year. I think wasps also chew out logs?

more likely Wood Wasps, they dont sting, I've had two types in my garden, a monster thing that chased me a few years back, I've not seen that type since, but this year there was a smaller one eating a dead part of a tree by my veg patch, they can make a suprising amount of saw dust, the long stinger looking thing is not a stinger, its for them to inject there eggs/grub deep into cracks in dead wood ;)

Thats deffo what its called, and congrats on spelling it, I was'nt sure lol

The ones in my garden seem to be most active in the height of summer, well the ones you see flying around in and out of their holes anyway, the grubs will just over winter munching dead wood, keep a mentle note of where the holes/cracks/nests are and wait until next year ;) the gaint type are beasts, it chased me around the garden about 6 years ago, it sounded like 300 heinkels:yikes:
