I have a small problem with some cylindrical beetrot.

I have also grown some normal round ones, the cylindriacl ones have a reddy colour leaves but the round ones have lovely geen leaves.

Does anyone know whats wrong with the cylindrical ones or are they supposed to be that colour. [IMG] [IMG]

My guess is, they are supposed to be that colour.
Most beetroot leaves (of the usual purple kinds) tend to be green with a reddish midrib.
Late in the season, and its getting a bit late now, when growth tends to slow or stop, the whole leaf can turn reddish.

Hi BG. Pull one and look at it. If the root looks healthy then don't fix it. If the leaves look healthy now, I wouldn't even check, unless very worried. [IMG]

Some have a longer growing season than others I guess.
Were they both sown at the same time?
As the roots reach maturity the plants stop growing and the leaves tend to look slightly old and reddish, they are a good deep green colour when young and vigourous.
The root stores the food for next years flowers, so when the root is a certain size the growth tends to stop and the root will wait till next year.
Occasionally the odd plant will "bolt" and flower this year, but thats not normal and is usually due to sowing too early.
