One of the few crops that seem to have been successful (well, if the leaves on the top are anything to go by!), are my beetroot - I have a re-usable grow bag full off beetroot, but how do I know when its ready to harvest?

I usually pick mine when they're inbetween the size of a golf ball and a tennis ball FC...
Saying that the first 2 sowings of 'Boultardy' bolted:frown: and this sowing don't seem to be moving...:dunno:....have a little dig with your finger if you can't see the root it'll give you an idea of how big they are:dbgrtmb:....i've had to make do with the leaves in salads so far but still holding out for the next crop:dbgrtmb:

I've been harvesting mine for the last 3 weeks. They are between the size of a golf ball and tangerine, but are very nice. As Lolimac says just dig around with your finger to get some idea of the size. I have about a dozen or so left which were a bit small so in the next few weeks these don't get and bigger I think I will pull them and pickle for Christmas.

I've got one the size of a tennis ball, two that are just tiddlers, and the rest don't seem to have anything going on but leaves?

I only grow in the ground, but usually its very apparent how big they are as the round bit forms above ground.
You pick when they are the size you want, anything from golf ball size upwards.

By using them early you thin them out, so allowing the remaining ones to get bigger.

I think in a gro bag you might need to feed regularly.

I've been feeding them fortnightly with tomato food, but think I am going to have to increase that now as the year is drawing on...

      Hiya F/C

I'm not sure about using tomato feed:dunno: What I can say is that a couple of years ago, my beetroot germinated great, then just stopped. I couldn't imagine what I'd done wrong, but on nothing more a hunch, I added growmore. They seemed to perk up almost straight away. Now, I'm not saying that they were 'cured' by this, but it was a bit of a coincidence.

      Cheers...Freddy

Thanks Freddy - as they were due a feed anyway, I threw growmore at them instead today, so we shall see.

I've had a wee poke around our carrots, and it would appear that we have something going on under the soil at least :)

Harvest them at ANYtime! bite size or whoppas? They all taste delicious once cooked or pickled.
