    Afternoon All,
Last year I planted the above type of (trailing) Begonias and after flowering lifted them and stored throughout Winter. I *found* them earlier this year - forgot I had them!! and planted them but I think a bit late. Anyway, they've been in flower just over a week, and I want to know whether it's better to LEAVE them in pots during winter or lift and dry them to replant? If I again take the second option, when is the optimum time to replant please?

    Thanks

Springy, if you are happy with the way they`ve turned out THIS year, then treat them the same as you did LAST year.:thumb:

Hello David, and thanks. I'm not unhappy with them this year, but I think they are somewhat later than they should be. Also, I wonder whether there is any benefit from lifting and storing for the winter as opposed to leaving them where they are.

    Hello Springshere
I have grown pendulous Begonia tubers for three years. I have left them in the planter as David suggests , and store them in a dry frost free place. Also you can lift them clean off most of the soil wrap them in shredded paper. Then hang them up in a plastic bag with holes in to allow ventilation - and store in a cool dry place.
The pic below is a 3 year old tuber - Begonia Bonfire , I replanted this the third week in Feb. The bottom picture are tubers I bought from T and M these were planted at the end of March , when they arrived. Possibly early March would be the correct time in my area.
The Bonfire will flower from may until late October, with virtually no attention. I think they are amazing plants :)

Harry, thanks for your reply. I know now I CERTAINLY planted mine up far too late - I think it was 2nd half of May - I'm in Lincolnshire! They are however looking quite lovely now, albeit not quite as lovely as yours!

I think I'll lift them rather than leave in-situ - I don't have a large garden and I'll use the same tubs for early Daffs.

I think of Begonias as 'old' flowers - not very much in fashion at the minute, similar to the Dahlias I've grown for the 2nd year - they are HUGE, stuffed with buds and quite magnificent. I have a Yellow/White variety, the blooms as large as saucers. I lifted them last year and replanted in Spring. I think the ones in the Garden I'll leave this year.

Thanks all for your advice on this.

    Springy
    xx
