Morning, I have some Begoina corms, that over wintered in the pots they were grown in last year OUTSIDE!, I lifted them a few weeks ago and they have grown from 2" round to well over 5" round. They look very healthy (roots etc..) and have lots of buds growing.

My question is, Is it too early to plant them out ? As I would like some of them in the borders this year. They grew quite huge last year and now the corms have enlarged so much, I don't really have any containers that are big enough.

    Thanks

    Hi Gdnam
Begonias are frost tender , mine are still in the house . If they are in a pot outside and have survived this mild winter , I would leave them where they are if its a sheltered spot , and plant out mid May.
If you need large plant pots , the favourite on GC is the £1 bucket from B and Q , Asda etc etc , I have 4 large Cannas growing in them now

I have been amazed that they survived, I have them sitting on some trays of compost right now, in the shed (has a clear roof so plenty light) when I did morning inspection, the shoots are well up and starting to show leaf growth. But guess I'll have to be patient.

I have 6 so might get 3 of the buckets.
