:) Hi Kyle'seems like you others died through lack of water and food.
They need watering most every day even when it rains.
I should go for plants that are a bit drought resistant like Geraniums upright and hanging with Cinerera silver dust readily avaliable at garden centres and markets. It's getting on a bit in the season,so get some decent size plants........Good luck.

I agree with Roders, they need watering every day - preferably first thing in morning and last thing at night. It also helps if you plant up the baskets using compost that contains water retaining gel and slow release fertilizers. I took a couple of photos of one of mine - the fuschias still haven't bloomed yet, as I picked of the growing tips a couple of times to promote branching.

I don't think it's water or lack of food! I put them out in March and I think they just wilted over time, in my opinion 4 months isn't bad going for the first hanging baskets I've done myself!

I water all my garden thoroughly every morning & evening, aswell as adding the little hundreds and thousands food stuff :)

          & thanks for the tip!

I've seen some around Manchester which the council have done, looks like creeping jenny with roses in the middle of it.. but I could be wrong, would this work in a hanging basket?

Hi there, March is very early so they may have been spring plants and run their course. Personally I like trailing lobelia - in particular saffire, (which can be late coming but will go on until November), Petunia Surfinia and bacup. good luck with your next batch - won't be that much in the shops left now. I did manage to get some lobelia from morrisons this weekend though EGW xx

            Hello Kyle
if you look at the council planters around your town , they will be planted with showy and reliable plants . Its a very good idea to copy their plants and mixes - I do :thumb:

I don't know what it is what they have, though :(

I've ordered two large creeping jenny plants and some viola trailing pansy to try and mix it up a bit

Creeping Jenny (Lysimachia) in varying forms are ideal for baskets. I used them in out baskets around the town along with Surfina Petunias, ivy leaf trailing Geraniums, Bacopa, Dichondra, trailing Fuchsias, trailing Begonia Illumination and Impatiens (Busy Lizzies)

There are hints that next year it will be a red, white and blue theme due to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee oh and the Olympics.

Kyle , just post a pic of the plants you need to identify in the ID section. It doesn't matter how easy the plants are, we all had to learn what a petunia or a busy lizzie was sometime . You wan't go far wrong with Strongylodon's basket plant list above though , they are all effective and reliable plants :dbgrtmb:

I never have my camera with me when I go past them (it's not my camera)

But I'm pretty sure it's creeping jenny with roses in the middle of it...

For what it's worth both my hanging baskets and some of my containers mostly planted up with a mixture of surfinia, bacopa and lobelia are just about shot to pieces despite constant watering. Like you kyleleonard they were all planted very early and although they have suffered some wind damage, in the main the plants have just run their course and now look exhausted. I'm off tomorrow to look for some replacements in the form of geraniums, etc hopefully at bargain clearance prices!

I've bought a trailing geranium for one of mine, I want them all to look different instead of looking the same :)

Sounds like a good idea for me too, mine are in very sunny south facing positions so geraniums should do the trick
