Whats the best time to sow Strawberry's from seeds please, I am hopeing for some fruit from the plants maybe next year, but just wondered if its best to sow the seeds now (under glass) or wait to September / October and then over winter them in a cold frame or can they be left outside during the winter months?

As I dont know anyone with runners, so is there any particular variety of seeds that I should be looking for? there seems to be loads of sellers on Ebay selling seeds so was going to look there.

Thanks for any help you can give.

"Don't know anyone with runners" ! ! Seeds will take ages. . .

Bang a request on Freecycle and I'm sure you will get results. Or take a stroll round the allotments and if you find good strawbs pop a note with your name/phone on it into a crack in the shed door.

I may have some towards the end of the year, (variety - Alice) if you still have no joy, give me a bell.

    Cheers, Tony.

I've planted quite a few lots of strawberry seeds, they take an age to get going in the first year, they look more like tiny weeds for ages. But in the second year they seem much more vigorous than second year runners to me. Well worth doing. Even ones I planted in one of those awful shallow hanging baskets last year and forgot to move are ahead of any of my other strawberry plants.
