Hi, I've got a bad infestation of spider mite I think I've got tiny white dots which I believe are them and and marks on leaves where they have been sucking out the sap. Started off on chillis now on all seedlings growing on windowsill I have sprayed chillies with bug killer how often should I use or is there a better way what about washing up liquid in spray bottle. Please help or I might lose all my seedlings.
    Many thanks

If you do have problems with spider mite, you must be growing in heat, it seems a bit early for real problems.
Bad infestations usually involve webbing, mostly high up on the plants.

Not sure about tiny white dots though, RSM is almost impossible to see with the naked eye.

Bug killer wont work, if it is RSM, although it might say it does on the container.

Yes they are in living room which has a log fire in so maybe too warm? Shall I move them? No webbing just small flecks and a few black flecks. What would you recommend to use?
      Thanks

I'm not sure it sounds like Red spider mite to me.

RSM, are minute creatures that are mostly on the under side of the leaves, the leaves usually go mottled green and yellow after they attack.

If you use a hand lens they are orange in colour.

Not the best photo, but from what I can make out the leaves just look chloratic. This can be down to
        • under or over watering.
        • lack of nutrients.
        • virus.
        • lack of light.
Is it just seedlings that are affected? If so I would rule out virus (unless you used old compost).
Next time you water them give them a weak feed with tomato feed and see if things improve.

Actually, it sounds like Scale Insects rather than Red Spider Mite.:dunno::scratch::coffee:

I cant tell much from the photo, but you would definitely not see RSM in a photo, only the effects, but to be honest I cant really make out any effects.

Yes could be, but it would be unusual in such small seedlings, especially from plants that are not ericacious.
I cant actually see anything really wrong with them.

If it is, I'd look for sticky deposits.

From the distortion of the leaf I'm wondering if it could be aphids, sometimes you dont get total infestations, just a few will appear on seedlings.
The white dandruff like specs, could be the discarded skins left behind as they grow.

Do you think maybe its bacterial leaf spot just the way some have got brown marks and are distorted? Been looking for any type of bug and there's nothing just white specks?
