Hello, last year I visited Beth Chatto's garden near Colchester in Essex.

It was absoultely wonderful. She has a scree, gravel, water and wood garden which are utterly beautiful.

The gravel garden was my favourite. It has never been watered since it was created and the entrance is dominated by a full grown Stipa Gigantica which nearly knocked me for six.

Best of all, you know when you go to a great garden and then when you go to the nursery section, there's just a few sad geraniums and a half dead foxglove? Well just about everything that you see in this garden, you will also find in the nursery! The nursery is also split according to shade and sun loving. The tea shop is great too.

Here's the website. They also do mail order. [IMG]

This has always been a fantastic garden and Beth has won lots of Golds at Chelsea. I remember when she first bought the site and it was waste ground and gravel pits. She had a wonderful vision of what she wanted to do with the garden and worked really hard to get it that way. She deserves all the success that her hard work has brought her [IMG] [IMG]

What a beautiful garden NW.I have often said that it is one of the gardens that I would like to visit. We shall have to make the visit next year in the summer.I remember reading in one of the gardening magazines some time back that she turned a piece of land that was once a car park into a large drought area where the ground never gets watered only by what falls down from the sky

Thankyou for the link and for sharing the photo's with us all [IMG]

Actually, I cheated, I lifted the photos off her website, but they're exactly what I saw when I visited.
