I bought 6 large bulbs last autumn - three in this pot, and failed to record what they were. They are nothing uncommon, but they will be something I have not grown before, so I still do not recognise them even at this stage . They will be in flower soon, but I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks Palustris, I originally thought Hyacinth, but as they got taller I was hoping it was Allium Schubertii, which was on my wanted list. Sounds now like Camassia - also on my wanted list. I don't know Galtonis - so have just had a Google.

If you like the Galtonia I can let you have a few bulbs, possibly a 1,000 or so? Also got the green one, only 500 of them available.

Looks like it could be Camassia, although it's taller than mine.
Galtonia bulbs Palustris? Haven't got any spare by any chance.... [IMG] Tried to grow some from seed with no success.

    What????????????
I sowed last years seeds 10 days ago and they are now 2 inches high and the self seeded ones are even bigger. Crumbs!!!!!
I weed kill hundreds of them cos they would take over the paths!
Shame I have just thrown the seeds away cos I did not need them.
The bulbs are actually in growth right now so it is a bit hard to send through the post. Mmmmm will have to see if there is a way.
    Get back to you tomorrow!

PeterS Galtonia is also known as summer hyacinth. Too early for agapanthus and I would have thought a bit late for Camassia - mine are all seed pods now. i think its probably Galtonoa candicans

Still working on a way. I could send some baby ones easier than flowering size. They take 2 to 3 years from seed and I have plenty of baby ones, both candicans and viridiflora. Any ideas on method? The babies are about an inch in diameter and have roots by the way!

Palustris, many thanks for your kind offer - I love trying new things, and if you found an easy way to send some small bulbs I would really appreciate that. But please don't go to too much trouble as I already have a garden which is overflowing.

I don't think these are Galtonia, for the simple reason that I don't know it, and consequently it was never on my wanted list. I wouldn't have consciously bought something that wasn't on the list - but there again I wouldn't have consciously bought something and not recorded it. :D

If anyone wants Galtonia, then please make a note of it and PM me in October and I will dig eome dormant bulbs up for you. OR. wait until early spring and I will send you some dried bulbs ready for planting, whichever is better for you.
