I got a surprise when I opened our local paper today!
Way back in mid October I'd submitted a photo and when autumn had rolled on in winter without it being published, I thought 'well that's it'.

Can't understand why they are publishing autumn pics at this time of year instead of going for something Christmassy or frosty/snowy!

    Well done, my friend. :luv:

What a wonderful scene ... who cares what their motives are as long as you are recognised. I think it is beautiful ... irrespective of the season ... :ntwrth:

Ta folks. I'm hoping to get down to the lagoons within the next day or so as they are probably frozen and will make a completely different photo.

Best wishes for Christmas day - hope Santa's kind to you!

    Congratulations Dave! :gnthb:

It has a moody feel about it and you captured it extremely well. Looking forward to seeing the winter one of it. Will you try to take it from the same position?

    Thanks Kedi
I had hoped to get down to the same spot today, but although it was nice and bright early (when I couldn't get out due to house guests) a mist has now rolled down the river and we have low cloud too. So I think I'll have to wait and see what tomorrow brings. The snow has at least hung on and it's still below freezing so I've still got a chance of some wintery shots - fingers crossed!

Have my fingers crossed for you, too, Dave, as I would like to see the same scene in winter mode.

Here's what the lagoon looked like today. Taken from just about the same spot, but I was using a different lens so the perspective is slightly different.
It was a hard slog through about 6" of snow along the bank!

Thanks Woo. I just wish I'd had a graduated ND filter to reduce the blown out sun. It was the first outing for the wide-angle lens that Santa dropped off for me and I've not got used to its foibles yet. I had my standard kit lens with me but fingers were too cold to faff about changing lenses. (Now there's a good argument for the benefits of a Bridge camera - no lenses to change! )
