BIRD FEEDER SURPRISE

One of my early morning routines is to let the cats out for their morning patrol of the garden and then fill the three Bird Feeders with seed. So, with a jug of seed in hand, I went along the center path towards the Feeders only to find one of the Cats looking up curiously at the feeders. I couldn't see anything on the feeders until I got closer and saw a dark shape in the feeder that the Doves on sitting in the pic.
When I got to the Feeder I could see the top was missing and on looking into the Feeder tube found a Starling was trapped completely, head first, inside. There was no way he/she could have got out and so I took the whole Feeder into a quiet area and managed to grip the tail feathers of the bird and gently ease it out backwards safely. When free it gave a squawk and flew off unharmed..........and not even a Thank You!!


This is a first time I have ever seen anything like this. All my Feeders have secure lids on them.....or at least had. I looked around but couldn't find the missing lid but I will manufacture one to stop anything like that happening again.
