Had a day on Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour recently, a National trust place with part leased to the Dorset Wildlife trust, the sea birds were taken from a DWT hide by the lagoon

Lovely bird photos Mike! Specially like the Black Headed gull in flight - I try taking photos of flying birds and just end up with ..... SKY!

Take a look at the GC Bird Survey thread - you have a bird not listed yet on here...! ;):thumb:

You Dorset guys are fortunate with your birds!

I missed this somehow, well done DM, the Avocet is amazing :thumb:, I saw 200 at Arne in feb but about 400 yards away, no good for pics. The Godwit close up beats my distant one.

Hi Strongy, the Dorset wildlife hides on Brownsea are mostly round the "lagoon" at the north east end of the island plus IIRC one a bit "inland" by some reedbeds.

As well as the birds there are red squirrels and deer.

@ Strongy, tip, go on a weekday out of peak holiday season, we went on a monday, not quite deserted but much easier to get around.

The best time supposedly for water birds there is autumn/winter when all the winter migrants come in. Also during the summer months there is a lot more foliage on trees and other plants making it easier for the critturs to hide from us!!
