I have been asked by a friend about her black bamboo. She has just come back from a three week holiday and found that her black bamboo has brown leaves due to the dry weather that we have had. A couple of the canes are still black. Should she cut off the brown looking stems with dried up leaves to the base and then give the container copious water? Would it help to re-pot into fresh compost as it is in a small container?

Would be grateful of any advice so that I can pass it on to her along with this forums details.

    Many thanks...

Bamboos need alot of water in containers, in the ground after a couple of yrs they do fine by themselves. Leave them for a while to see if new growth apears say till May, then cut them off if nothing happens. Give them a bit of food too. Hope that helps. ;)
