Was chattting to a lovely old chappy yesterday and he said to get rid of black fly u boil up a lb of rhubarb leaves in a litre of water then dilute the solution 1 part rhubeb mix to 2 parts water and spray your plants with it. He says it works a treat the only problem I have is that I don't like rhubarb so I don't grow it lol.

Let me know if anyone tries it and if it works or not?

Ditto LMRR, I don't like rhubarb so don't grow it. On my runner beans I use a very dilute mix of stergene (1 teaspoon per pint - I guess any washing up liquid might do, but stergene is supposed to be pure soap) a couple of times a week. It doesn't get rid of all of them, but combined with a spray every day with the hose it keeps them manageable.

If rhubarb works it might be worth growing some just for this.
